The Egg Man Store

Spring  fever has hit the farm!

We're looking at seed catalogs and getting ready to place our first chick order.   We will begin selling chickens in June.  As we prepared our taxes for this year, we were disappointed to learn that we didn't make enough profit on the meat chickens to make it worth our efforts.  The loss of the forty chickens was a big hit for us (you can find that story on Amy's blog from last summer).  This year we are going to change our strategy a bit and, sorry to say, raise our price.  We will be raising smaller batches of chickens this year so that we can process them ourselves.  Last year we had such big orders that we had to have a couple of batches processed for us and that cut into our profit as well.  We will continue to take orders this year, but if you can't make it on the processing day, we will not hold your order.  We do not have a lot of freezer space so we need to have as many fresh chickens sold as possible.   We had most of our orders in June and July of last year but many chickens weren't picked up until weeks after they were processed.  This year we hope to have a steady supply throughout the summer.  Thank you for being patient with us as we learn what works and what doesn't.
